I purchased the product specifically for the bundled Palm OS support. Pairing the BT-40 to a Palm Centro is spotty at best. Add to that the lost pairing during an incoming call, and the product is virtually worthless for mobile Palm use.

I haven’t spent much time with the PC-based software. I’m sure (or I hope) it’s much better.

The reception with this GPS was extremely poor. I tested it in an area where I get great reception with my TomTom and the reception kept fading out. I would recommend spending a little more on a TomTom GPS. I have tried Garmin GPS’s also and found the TomTom far superior. I returned this item to DeLorme.

I bought the BT-20 to record bread-crumb trails using Street Atlas on my Samsung netbook. Previously I had use a Garmin GPS III to record and then transfer the trails to Street Atlas on my desktop, but the Garmin had limited memory.

The BT-20 works great. Positioned just behind the windshield, it locks on fast and doesn’t seem to be bothered in tree-lined neighborhoods. Since it is recording to the netbook hard drive, it can record seemingly unlimited cross-country bread-crumb trails. I have a cigar-lighter fed inverter that provides 19 volts DC and keeps the netbook and the Earthmate running without discharging the netbook battery. The moving map can be zoomed in for detail, or out for orientation. Of course this setup can be used for navigation. Very satisfied with the entire setup.
